FLASHMOSS: MAKE YOUR OWN MOSS WALL AND MAKE GRONINGEN MORE GREEN

There is too much concrete and steel and stone in Dutch cities. Greenery has a cooling effect, retains water, and promotes bees and happy people. Also in Groningen.

That is why we are doing a #flashmoss in Groningen on January 31:

we create works of art with layers of green moss in various places in the city, to show that things can easily be made greener, and that they should be. Biodegradable, sustainable, cheerful, and free. Because green is possible anywhere. Just so long as you want to.

Do you have a suitable wall? Want to join? Sign up! The first 25 participants will receive the unique MossMaker for free! This way you can quickly and easily green any wall.

Maak de mosmix

This is how you easily make your own Watmost green moss mix

[1] Carefully harvest some moss from tiles or walls. Preferably in places where the moss will have no trouble growing back. Do not take moss from nature areas, such as parks or forests. This is prohibited.

[2] Rinse the moss to get rid of any soil that might be in there.

[3] Put the moss in a blender with some full-fat yogurt and a tablespoon of sugar, and start mixing. The ratio is about 1.5 cups of yogurt for 1 cup of moss.

[4] Put the mixture in your moss can and let it cool overnight to thicken,  if needed.

This is how you make art from moss.

[1] Choose your spot (somewhere where it’s allowed). Your best chance of success is on a rough surface, in a damp place, facing north.

[2] Scrape the surface clean and rough it up (if needed)

[3] Check thoroughly to make sure there are no cracks in the walls, you should steer clear of those

[4] Use the moss mix to paint your own #flashmoss artwork

[5] Spray with water (with a plant sprayer)

[6] Take a photo and share with the hashtag #flashmoss

You’ll need: a scraper, plant sprayer, brush, and moss mix. Haven’t got these? Borrow them from your neighbor, roommate, mother or a nice colleague!
